Can you layer curly hair?

i have very very curly hair and i am going to get it cut and thinned this weekend for school and i want to have it layered so it will look really cute when its straightened but will this make my hair look strange when its curly and what about getting choopy ends will that be a problem either?

you can layer curly hair just get them in long layers - it's when you start with short layers that you get the fro

oh and as for straightening from my past experience your hair will just grow back a whole lot thicker (plus when you get it thinned out it almost looks layered so if you are going to go through with thinning you may as well layer while you're at it)

yes you can layer curly hair, it may actually help remove some of the bulk of your curl so hair wont be as poofy, just be sure to have it cut in longer layers. You may want to suggest that your shortest layer is no shorter than chin length.

STOP RIGHT THERE!!!!! i got my hair layered and it is the worst thing EVER!! and when u straighten it it is like 20 different lengths cuz one time i went to get it straigtened and she wanted to know if i cut it myself so i would save the money and not get it done!!

I also have very curly hair and have ALWAYS had layers. But make sure you tell the hairdresser prior to cutting it that you don't want a fro-ball! I think they also used "sherring scissors" at the end of my haircut to cut down on frizzing. All I know is that it took me 6-7 hairdressers to find one that knew how to properly cut layers on curly hair!

If you use a good stylist, your hair will turn out great. If you plan to get your hair straightened, you should do that before you layer it. Otherwise, it might end up looking un-even on the sides.

I tell ya, I wouldn't even be able to get into the front seat of my car in this weather if my hair weren't layered! ;) Seriously, that's the best thing you can do, but you'll want to have the stylist cut long layers below your ears. If you have them start cutting layers at the top of your head, it makes you look like a poodle in humid weather! Also, try to talk the stylist into cutting your hair dry. As you know, curly hair kind of shrinks after it dries, and the cut will end up much too short if the stylist cuts it wet.

As a final tip, make sure you use shampoos, conditioners and styling gels that are designed to either keep it straight or keep it curly. Truthfully, I wouldn't even try to keep it straight. I tried that for years, and it just wasn't worth the time. I had my hair professionally straightened years ago (which was awesome, by the way!), but it's really hard on the hair. I say, embrace your curls, but get them under control with styling products.

Hey, I have extremely curly hair too. Listen, getting your hair layered is cool, I've always wanted mine layered. I went to a hair salon in New York and there was a girl there with curly hair just like mine. She told me I should never get chopped chunky layers. Girls with curly hair should get their hair so that it is round. short near the chin, then longer as it goes. slowly though, so that you can't see individual layers. I got my hair done like this, and it looks amazingly better than when I got it layed with two chunky layers. I honestly suggest trying this way.

Try trimming it first. Then straighten it and layer it if you can get pass it being trimmed. It should blend good if you decide to let it go back curly depending if you like the cut.

first of all, let me say that my hair is corkscrew curly. basically, if you pull my hair, it goes"boing". i've tried having it thinned, but it just makes it poofier. try getting layers throughout starting at either exactly at the chin, mid-cheek, or cheek bone. it won't make your hair look weird when it's curly, it's what i usually do to my hair, and my boyfreind says that he loves my hair when it's really curly.
