Hints and tips for curly hair?

I have curly hair,and because it is quite heavy it can pull straighter near the roots.I do have some layers chopped in for extra volume, but who has some handy hints and tips to make the most of my curly hair, to keep the curls tight and to stop it going flat? (i do use hair mousse too,before anyone suggests it!)

I have curly hair too. I use Garnier Fructis hair products. They have a new line specifically for curly hair...shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner. The leave-in stuff is great!! It will help keep the curls.

dry it with your head tipped upside down with a diffuser on the hairdryer

Buy some curling moose (You can get it in any supermarket, I use Shockwaves but they do products for girls too)

Apply it to dripping wet hair, not soaking, but very wet, and then shake your head around like a mad man and style it.

Then just wait about an hour for your hair to dry naturally. (DONT EVER USE HAIRDRYERS, your hair wont curl if u use a hairdryer)

And voila!!! Your hair will be curly, (with any luck!)

why dont you use a curling iron on the top section of your hair so that it is curly and the roots too. you dont need to do your whole head if your hair is already curly just the roots.

Also you could try velcro or heated rollers round the crown of your head and it would also give you that kinda big sexy curly hair look lol good luck xxx

when i get out of the shower I use infusium 23 leave-in conditioner and brush it through, then I use aussie spray gel and i also blow dry it upside-down (only half-way to keep the roots from being funky) and while your blow drying grab your hair with your palm ends first and hold them closer to your scalp that will cause the hair to actually turn and curl

My brother is a top hair stylist in London and I have the same problem until he introducded me to a product that is in a creme formula call Fat Hair and its a product from ghd but also Fudge do a similar product. Now you can't buy these from your ordinary retail shops or chemists etc you'll have to go to a salon from your town, one that is not just your ordinary back street hairdresser's doing wash %26amp; set or purple rinse ( no offence to anyone)! Once you've got the product first time you use it you'll think Oh my god how have I managed with out it, believe me I couldn't live with out mine.

I have thick/heavy curly hair too. Here's what I do:

When u wash your hair, flip your head over the bath n put curlin mouse in it, that will help stoppin it looking flat, as you get when you just put mouse in standing straight.

Then you have a few options: You can allow it to dry naturally, When its almost dry add some more mouse to style, this will give you added volume. If your finding it hard to style you can add some gel ( any not strong gell will do) to help create your desired look.

If you dont want to wash it everyday, the day after you can use Frizz-Ease Dream Curls Curl Perfecter to get ride of the frizz you'll get from sleeping on it.

The best thing though is to allow it to dry naturlly as curly hair tends to be dryier and hair tools will just make it dryier and cause more damage.

I have curly locks too - the key is flip head down then apply lots of moose then scrunch scrunch scrunch, give a little shake (for volume) then scrunch some more, and then either allow to dry naturally or diffuse for extra oomph!! Don't over-dry though as you'll end up looking like you've been dragged through a bush backwards!!!!

hi i am a hairdresser and I'm afraid other than adding more layers or thinning out the top section to make it lighter ther is nothing much you can do to stop it going straight at the roots as already suggested use a diffuser upside down with lots of mousse is the best advice hope this helps
