I have thick springy curly hair. I like to have the option of letting my hair be curly, but I like it much better straight. I have a straightener and about 100 straightening creams and gels. it takes me about an hour to get my hair completely straight after I take a shower. I have tried blow drying first, but since my hair is so thick it pouffs up into an afro type and is still wavy and I still need to straighten it afterwards. Beacause of all the things I do to keep it straight my hair is dry and frizzy, and the ends are spilt and look more like a broom. I have been told my hair looks like it was put in an oven. AHH! I hate my hair! HELP!
How do I make my thick curly hair straight?
I've got the same thing, you should do what I did and get it relaxed. Here's what that means: The curls will be a teensy bit loose, but still perfectly intact. It makes it much easier to straighten, though, and a lot less frizzy.
Also, straighening creams don't do crap. It's the same stuff that's in any normal cream, just with a diffrent color label. DEFINITELY use something that is made to protect your hair from heat damage caused by a flat iron.
Don't flat-iron it more than once a week. use a spray-shampoo on it and wear a shower cap if you want to keep it staight for more than a day. And don't use shampoo everytime you wash it. (I use a shampp called HealthySexyHair, for the record. It repairs a lot of the damage and makes it smooth! The I use the BioSilk Silk Therapy Serum, which is AMAZING.)
Also, use a deep conditioner once a week. Try the Biolage conditioning balm, they sell it at CVS.
You might want to consider getting your hair trimmed, as well.

I really suggest trying a relaxer. My hair wasn't nearly as curly as yours sounds, but it was wavy. I got a relaxer, and now my hair is really straight. No more hassle of straightening and trying all those weird products. Good luck hun !! (:

Buy one of those heavy-duty straighteners. They might be expensive, but you will be so happy when it works for you!
Also, talk to your hair stylist about getting your hair chemically straightened if you want a permanent change. He/She might be able to offer salon-quality products to you as well.
And don't worry about straightening your hair everyday. For non-going-out days, pile you hair in a messy bun! Adorable and practical. Practice an ideal hairstyle, and use it.
Good luck!

Here is advice from a curly hair person who straightens her hair:
Use the following:
EasyStraight (sold in Ulta)
It will definitely straighten your hair. It's a 3 step process. Use the shampoo, leave in for 7 min and washout. 2) straightening gel - leave in for 7 min and washout and 3) serum-leave in. Once you blowdry, it will be totally straight.
Side effect: It does itch your scalp.
Alternative: Use Biosilk shampoo, conditioner and silk therapy. You will loose the frizz and curliness.

I think you can get it chemically straightened at a salon. I'm not sure how good that is for your hair though. Um if you get like heat serum and put that in your hair before you dry it it wouldn't poof as much, but then you'd still need to straighten it. If i were you and you wanted it straight that bad, splurge and buy a professional straightener.

firstly, understand that everyones going through some hair problems. don't feel bad!! and don't hate it!!
my hair is just about exactly the same as urs.
u may want to start by getting a hair cut to get rid of the split ends. ask for a hair cut with layers to tame ur hair.
also, try adding some oils before ur shower. for example, cocunut oil and warm olive oil really helps ur hair. put it in 20ish minutes before ur shower. this will mosturize it really good!!
also, try using Dangerously Straight by Herbal Essences. get there shampoo, condidtioner, and other rpoducts like leave in conditioner. it really helps!!!!
after ur shower, immediatly apply leave in conditioner to ur damp hair.
also, straightening ur hair may take an hr, but there may be no way to speed up the process. dont get annyoed! just accept that fact, or leave ur hair curly.
people everywhere r dying for curly hair.
BE PROUD OF IT!!!

Use a really good shampoo and conditioner for dry hair...then towel dry. Spray with leave on conditioner...I like Banana Boat Sunscreen %26amp; conditioner for your hair...with SPF 15. This helps from the heat damage. Then use a Flat iron! It does take a little while until you get the hang of it, but it works and it's much better for your hair.
Also be sure to use a flat hair brush....not a round one...for those of us who were blessed with curly, thick hair, the rounded brushes just make it curlier because it's natural for your hand to roll as your brush your hair. When you use a flat brush, start underneath and pull the brush straight out from your head!
I had a hard time when I first started with the flat iron, but I went to a salon and asked her to show me how to use it. It didn't cost too much to have my hair styled considering I was learning to do it myself!

How do I make my thick curly hair straight?
well, u have to have dry hair to be able to use a straitener. but when u have curly hair, and u blow dry, it becomes 1 big frizz-ball, so there is a secial kind of straitener, that is especially, for wet hair, so when you put the straitener in your wet hair, instead of burning it, it lets vapor out so your hair won't burn! i have seen that straitener @ Wal*Mart for about $23.98.
Hope it works!
