k welll i have thick curly hair and its really hard to handle it because it always gets tangled and the tangles take forever to brush them out! What should i do? also what are some good shampoos or conditioners to try? i use Frutcis Grangir(spelling?) and i need some new hairstyles? also does curly hair look better when its short or when its long?

I have the same problem - my hair's thick and curly. I use Pantine Pro-V curly shampoo and conditioner. I have medium-styled hair (to my shoulders) but I cut it off if it gets longer because it's painful to brush.
Try using a hair pick. It's easy to pull out of hair when you reach a bad tangle.

Everynight after I take a shower, I braid my hair. This prevents it from getting tangly during the night. But first I put some hair gel in it because the braid can kill the curls. You can also try taking a shower in the morning and letting your hair curl up naturally.

For hairstyles, I have bangs which I usually straighten dead straight or I sorta curl it at the bottom so it's really bouncy looking. When I'm not in the mood to do my hair, I take this huge hair clip that's big enough for my hair, and clip up my hair in that. I also leave it down often.
and for your last question, I personally prefer longer hair, but short and longer hair both have their pros and cons!!!

How to handle curly, thick hair? i'm a hairstylist living in hong kong (i'm from uk), usually when it comes to curly hair, it really depends on how curly and how thick when choosing length, very thick and very curly usually gets too BIG if its short (bob length) and very fine loose curls gets very flat and "lank" when it's too long, i suggest sitting down with a decent stylistand having a thourough consultation (a good stylist wont charge for a consultation, providing u call in advance expaining u want some advice), stay away from commercial products u get in a superstore, a salon will be able to advise u on which product is right for ur hair. to remove the tangles i suggest combing the conditioner through in the shower, carefully with a large tooth comb, like a rake comb or an afro comb. to find a reputable stylist, try going to ur country's expat website, every country should have one and put up a post asking for a recomendation, u'll see the same names keep coming up, thats usually a good guide. hope this helps... good luck.
How to handle curly, thick hair? Get a really nice defuser. This helps make the hair a controllable curly. I think curly hair looks better atleast shoulder length. But that is just my own personal opinion... but I would deffinetally try a defuser. They work wonders. I promise.

First of all, go out and buy a comb with thick, spaced out prongs and use it during your shower. Brushes and combs with the eensy weensy little prongs separate curls into little sections that can make you look like little orphan annie. Make sure you use it IN the shower or right after it. dont use it when hair is dry or it will give you even more frizz. Don't towel dry hair, the rubbing will also break up your curls.
When your hair is damp, take a small amount of mousse and rub it between your hands, so you dont get a huge clump of mousse in one area. Take the mousse and lightly scrunch hair towards your scalp -%26gt; thatta way. Dont scruch up, you wont get coverage for most of your hair that way. This should help relax your curls so they aren't so cork-skrewy!
Next, go out and buy some Garnier Fructis soft curl cream. Because even though you made your hair more relaxed by using the mousse, you still need your curls to stay DOWN! instead of springing out all over the place. With the cream, take a small amount (its very thick) and rub in between your fingers, not your palms. Then, take your fingers and run them down over the curl (It should go straight for a second) then go back and wrap it around your finger, a pencil, a curling iron (not when its on though!) etc. to get the shape that you want. Washing your hair that much will keep washing all of the natural oils from your hair and make it more frizzy and dry. So, in a shamppo and conditioner, youd want to look out for extra moisturizing products with oils and vitamins etc. It'll help A LOT!
As for hairstyles, you might want to find a hairstylist that majored in the care of curly hair. Not every stylist knows how to manage our little problems, but they'll guess and mess up if you don't instruct.
You might want to start growing your hair out asap. Nothing looks prettier than a girl with long natural waves, not too long though. We dont want to be cousin it with a bad perm! :) If you cut your hair short, itll bounce right back up and shrivel into this mini-afro.
my suggestion? make your hair longer, about 2.5 inches past your shoulder, then get lots of random layers. It'll help stop the mass of hair from piling on top of one another since the weight of the hair will make your top straighter and your bottom curlier. Its a way to even out the masses. But also make sure to request long layers, we don't want crisp cuts anywhere, it'll make your hair look too choppy and crisp. Curly hair is about going with the flow.
