Tips for very curly hair?

I have a very mixed background, and my hair is pretty curly. My hair is about a 3B. There's a link to a pic of 3B hair below.

I just wanted to know some tips to keep it frizz-free, and how to tighten and define the curls.

Yeah, I know most would think I'm crazy for wanting tighter curls when my hair is 3B already, but I just like it like that. =]

Never use HOT water on the hair and scalp. Always wash the hair with warm water followed by a cool rinse.

Be delicate with your curls while washing, conditioning and styling.

After you shampoo your hair:

Tilt your head to all three angles again (side/back/side), pile the ends into the towel and squeeze from ends to roots. Allowing the hair to fall away from the scalp prevents that oh-so-common flat top/wide bottom scenario by lifting and encouraging the wave pattern at the root. Squeeze hard and push against the scalp gently.

DO NOT COMB!! Apply your chosen curly hair product by either scrunching in gently from ends to roots or spraying if that's the case. Tilting works here too and will help ensure that you get the product underneath, especially near the scalp.

Curl Enhancer Styling Lotion - This creamy curl booster eliminates frizz, defines curls and provides light curl control. Ideal for fine hair textures. Go to this website for a complete line to take care and define your curls:

Avoid raking your fingers through the hair so you don't separate the curls. If your hair tends to be flat on the top, lift sections gently and spray the roots underneath those top sections.

Let your hair dry naturally, scrunching occasionally, or diffuse by tilting to all three angles again (even upside down, but carefully), gently piling the ends of the hair into the diffuser and pressing it up against the scalp.

Again, if your hair tends to be flat on top, make sure you're lifting those root sections slightly as you dry, the shape hair dries in is the shape it'll hold until it's washed again. Stop diffusing when the hair is still slightly damp, not visibly though. This will prevent frizzy hair and brittleness from over drying.

The less you disturb the hair during this process, the better your results will be. This technique effectively clumps the strands together, creating a well-defined curl or wave pattern and maximum shine while reducing frizz.

If your curls are very tight or tend to be fuzzy, stay away from brushes altogether!

there are really some good but cheap products on the marke to put on after washing hair and it just takes a small dab in the palm of your hand rub it in and rub it in your hair. it keeps the frizzes down and your hair will work with you instead of you trying to work your hair.

You can use gel and other hair products to make your hair more than 3B and to define your curls, usually people use moose to define their curls but mosses usually makey your hair very dry and unhealthy. Go to your local hair dresser and ask for tips, they can help! Good Luck!

Don't wash hair every day. This kind of hair needs the natural oils from your scalp to reduce frizz. Try putting on some lavender oil or coconut oil in your hair for styling. This will reduce the frizz, while conditioning your hair and protecting it against sun damage. Its a good idea to deep condition your hair at least once a week a lot of frizz comes from damage to your hair. Wash and condition your hair using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Wavy and curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair. Comb hair in shower while conditioner is still in. Never brush or towel dry hair. Instead, air dry or diffuse.

Applying a leave in conditioner will often help tame your frizz, without weighing it down too much or leaving it feeling greasy. Some suggested leave in conditioners: Aveda Brilliant Damage Control, Bumble and bumble leave in conditioner with frizz control, or Aussie Hair Insurance. A great product for air drying your hair is Aveda Brilliant Pomades- they come with a humectant for letting your hair dry curly. If you're going to blow dry your hair and you want it curly, use a diffuser on the end of your blowdryer. Flip your head over and scruch your hair, but not too much. Dry until your hair is almost dry, and then let air dry the last bit. This prevents frizziness. Use a mousse or pomade for this. If you want Spray hair lightly with an anti-frizz spray.
